PDC Bearing Matrix & Diamond Composite Sheets Vacuum Brazing

Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) bearing matrices and diamond composite sheets are engineered for exceptional wear resistance, strength, and thermal stability. A PDC bearing matrix combines synthetic diamond particles with a metallic binder to create durable cutting or bearing surfaces that withstand extreme drilling conditions. PDC thrust bearings are widely used in turbo drills, mud motors, and other oil field applications. Compared with tungsten carbide bearings, PDC bearings offer 4–10 times longer working life and can sustain higher load capacity. Polycrystalline diamond radial bearings, part of PDC inserts assembled in carrier rings, include rotating and stationary rings with PDC surfaces in contact, providing high hardness and strength to withstand heavy loads. They are suitable for process-fluid-lubricated applications where abrasive particles are present, maintaining geometry and exhibiting minimal wear.

Advantages of Vacuum Brazing

Vacuum brazing is ideal for joining PDC bearing matrices and diamond composites to metallic or ceramic substrates. The clean, oxygen-free atmosphere prevents oxidation and contamination, allowing uniform filler metal flow and strong metallurgical bonding. This process ensures high joint strength, excellent thermal conductivity, minimal distortion, and extended tool life, which is crucial for demanding oil and gas applications.

Normantherm’s Solution

At Normantherm, we design and manufacture advanced vacuum brazing furnaces specifically for PDC and diamond composite applications. Our Vacuum furnace systems feature precise temperature control, uniform heating, and ultra-clean vacuum environments that guarantee reliable, repeatable brazing results. With over 15 years of expertise, Normantherm vacuum furnaces help manufacturers to vacuum brazing PDC-based drilling tools, thrust bearings, radial bearings, turbo drills, and mud motors to achieve superior bond quality, wear resistance, and long-lasting durability.
