Vacuum Brazing of Stainless Steel, Gold-Plated Pins and Ceramics for Electronics & Semiconductor Applications

Stainless Steel, Gold-Plated Pins and Ceramics in Electronic & Semiconductor Components

In electronic and semiconductor systems, stainless steel, gold-plated stainless steel pins and ceramics are selected because each material performs a critical function. Stainless steel provides mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and dimensional stability for housings and structural parts. Gold-plated pins ensure low electrical resistance, stable signal transmission and long-term oxidation protection, which is essential in high-precision connectors and feedthroughs. Ceramics offer excellent electrical insulation, thermal resistance and vacuum compatibility. Together, these materials form assemblies used in hermetic connectors, vacuum feedthroughs, power semiconductor packages and sensor housings widely required in India’s electronics and semiconductor manufacturing sector.

To successfully join stainless steel, gold-plated pins and ceramic parts, vacuum brazing is the most reliable method. Before brazing, all components are carefully cleaned through ultrasonic and chemical processes to remove oil, oxides and surface contaminants. A specially designed ceramic-to-metal brazing paste, usually silver- or gold-based with active elements, is applied to the joint area. The assembly is then placed inside a vacuum furnace, where brazing occurs at 780°C to 950°C under a vacuum level of 10⁻⁴ to 10⁻⁵ mbar. This oxygen-free environment prevents oxidation and allows perfect wetting between metals and ceramics, producing flux-free, hermetic and high-strength joints required for semiconductor-grade components.
